lecture from God

Keith has been pretty troubled lately about how to have fun with a teenage time bomb. He's been searching for ways to interact that will be fun for both of them. Tonight before our family home evening lesson, we were all out playing on the trampoline together. Sari was a titch cranky, the word Shawnie used to describe her was "poophead" which I am afraid was learned from me... Anyway, Keith was really pestering Sari and teasing her and annoying her, (This is his experimental method of interaction.) She'd been in tears a couple of times already, and then, as she was jumping over him, he picked up his leg and tripped her and she fell flat on her face. Well, of course, she jumped up sobbing and ran into the house and our enjoyable evening outdoors was finished. So we head inside and are reading in "For the Strength of Youth" for our lesson about families. It ended up being quite the appropriate lesson for us tonight. At the end of the message, there is a scripture to look up, Ephesians 6:1-3, so I look it up and begin reading:

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

We joked about the reason that they'll live long on the earth is because their parents won't want to do them in...

Then, for some reason I read on to the next verse revealing Keith's lecture from God:
And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Sari and I burst out laughing and Keith apologized, and once again, we were a happy family.

It ended up being one of the most profound lessons we've ever had.

That is really funny Melanie. Oh, Keith! He really set himself up for this!

Hahaha, that couldn't have been anymore clear! At least he's still trying to interact with that "teenage time bomb." Don't give up on her. We miss you guys!
